Canada-based First Inflection Business Advisors (FIBA) invests in and provides Business Advisory and Consulting Services to Kitchener-Waterloo-based Pulse Industrial.

Pulse Industrial has invented a Remote Monitor Steam Trap System by combining proprietary Artificial Intelligence driven algorithms with robust, wireless communications technology. This Remote Monitor Steam Trap System can disrupt the Global Steam Trap Market, which is valued to reach U$4.3 billion by 2022, and growing at 3.6% CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) over forecast period 2020-2026.[1]

Steam and Steam Trap Failures

Steam is a very efficient and cost effective method to provide heat in a wide range of Institution, Industrial and Manufacturing sectors, such as Hospital and Health, Pharmaceutical, Food and Beverages, Pulp and paper, Oil, Gas and Chemicals, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), and Commercial Buildings.

Steam traps are engineered into the steam delivery system to ensure that high heat content steam is available at the point of use.

According to the United States Department of Energy, the failure rate for steam traps can be as high as 20%, resulting in disrupted operations. Increased fuel consumption to generate steam, increased CO2 emissions, increased financial losses.

Remote Monitoring with Pulse

Pulse Industrial has invented a Wireless Steam Trap Monitor which simply clamps on to a pipe next to each steam trap and automatically monitors failure in steam traps 24/7.

When the moment a failure is detected, maintenance staff are notified via email or text with information about the location of the trap, type of failure and cost-savings if fixed. The economics (visualized below) behind the savings from pro-active monitoring are simple: the earlier a failure is caught and fixed, the more steam is saved, the less fuel is burned, and less CO2 gas emitted.

The added benefit is that maintenance staff has one less task to check off and freed up to do other productive work.

The mandate of Canadian-based First Inflection, located in Toronto, is to advise and assist Pulse Management in scaling up its business in the Global Steam Trap Monitoring market.
